Problem

Outdated Card Descriptions: Users found it inconvenient and frustrating to rely on traditional paper booklets with outdated and limited card descriptions, leading to a disjointed and unsatisfactory user experience.

Solution

Comprehensive Digital Interpretations: As a sole product designer on the project, I spearheaded the development of a comprehensive digital library of card interpretations within Frenzy Tarot, offering users in-depth insights and guidance on various aspects of their lives.

Categorized Meanings: Recognizing the importance of personalized readings, I introduced categorized meanings within the app, allowing users to easily access interpretations tailored to specific categories such as personal life, career, relationships, and more.

Modern and Intuitive Design: Leveraging my expertise in user-centric design principles, I led the creation of a modern, visually appealing interface for Frenzy Tarot, ensuring a seamless and immersive user experience that resonates with the preferences of the target audience.

Research

We asked women who are interested in tarot cards from the 18-30 y.o. age group and found out the most popular problems with similar apps or with analog tarot card interpreters:

Personas

When talking to these women, we have built a clear understanding of a portrait of our potential customers.

Competitors

We conducted a thorough competitor analysis and found out what features they have, how popular they are, and read their testimonials on the App Store. Here are the key takeaways from our key competitors:

Inclusivity

When analyzing competitors, we also found out the demographics of potential users, which we took into consideration and included translations into languages of these countries in the app. We made sure that the fonts include styles for these languages.

Architecture

Based on the gathered information, I built the information architecture of our feature app, including all the most important features:

Visual Style

We have created a custom set of illustrations to differentiate from competitors, be more interactive, and capture and retain people’s attention.

Results

After creating some low-fidelity prototypes, testing out our flows, and exploring different types of visual references, we created the final design that perfectly addressed the questions users had after using competitors' applications and analog cards.

Reflection

Working on the Frenzy Tarot project provided a valuable opportunity to delve into the world of tarot and design a product that resonated with both seasoned practitioners and newcomers to the practice. It was a journey of discovery, learning, and creativity, as I navigated the complexities of tarot interpretation and translated them into a digital experience. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, conducting user research, and iterating on the design based on feedback were integral parts of the process, leading to the development of a product that not only met user needs but also exceeded expectations.
